The Santa Ana Winds of the National Premier Soccer League have announced the signings of head coach Jose Vasquez.
Santa Ana Winds, S.A. CA – The Santa Ana Winds fc Inc. has announced
that Jose Vasquez will be the SA. Winds head coach for the 2012 season.
Jose Vasquez after spending the past eighth season as the head coach of
the Santa Ana College men's soccer team. Last season, Vasquez led the
Dons to their 17th-consecutive Orange Empire Conference championship.
In 2005, Vasquez led Santa Ana (24-2-1) to its record seventh, and
second straight, California Community Colleges state title when the Dons
defeated Santa Rosa College , 3-1, in the finals of the 2005 Citi
California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics Men's Soccer
Championship held on December 11 in Fresno.
The Dons fell short in the national rankings and were named the national
runner-up to Herkimer County College (NY), a reversal of last year's
finish. In 2004, Vasquez lead the Dons to their second National Soccer
Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national title edging out
Herkimer County College (NY) for the top spot.
Following the Dons' undefeated season, Vasquez was named the NSCAA's
West Region Coach of the Year as well as the National Coach of the Year.
Prior to taking over the head coaching duties following the retirement
of legendary soccer coach J.P. Frutos in Fall 2003, Vasquez spent 11
seasons as an assistant coach at Santa Ana College.
During that span, Santa Ana won one national title, four state titles and a record 10 consecutive conference titles.

Vasquez played at Santa Ana in 1989-90 and set multiple scoring records.
He still currently holds three records at Santa Ana including fastest
goal (10 seconds), hat tricks (4) and goals in a game (7). Vasquez was
inducted into the Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007 for
his impressive playing career.
After playing at Santa Ana, Vasquez played for a variety of professional
soccer teams including: Club Guadalajara Chivas in 1991; Atlas,
Rojinegros in 1992; L.A. Salsa in 1993-94; Pueblo, Camoteros in 1995;
Celaya, Puebla in 1995; Anaheim Splash in 1995; Los Angeles Galaxy in
1996-99; Orange County Zodiac in 1997 and 1999; Orange County Waves in
2000.
Previous to coaching at Santa Ana College , Vasquez led Santa Ana High
School to its first-ever CIF championship in 1991. He also coached
Orange High School to a CIF championship in 1995.
